Analysis of The Use of Chinese Degree Adverbs by Indonesian Students

Abstract. Degree adverbs are one of the important and difficult learning points in Teaching Chinese as a second language (TCSL). Commonly, degree divided into two types four levels. Each type level have different collocations, semantic features, etc. According to academic article collections CNKI google scholar, research on from perspective TCSL for Indonesian students is still very limited. This study discusses use Adverbs by students. aims describe student selection find most frequent error using commonly used comparative adverbs: low-level ‘shaowei’, medium-level ‘bijiao’, high-level ‘geng’, extreme-level ‘zui’. The approach this quantitative-qualitative method. samples Department at universities Bandung city. data was collected exercises. applies analysis procedure introduced McDowell types. result shows that tend pure adverbs, adverb ‘hen’, followed its synonymous words ‘tebie’, ‘feichang’, ‘tai’, ‘shifen’. In first learned word. form exercises teaching material should encourage more varied adverbs. levels bijiao word sentences zui sentences, misordering omission complement ‘yidianr/yixie’ shaowei sentences. major cause errors intralingual interference. made some suggestions improvement based findings.Keywords: Adverbs, Selection Tendencies, Frequent Error Types, Students
